Espresso machines beta · Nespresso

Nespresso Vertuo

Owners keep a Vertuo for the one-button large cup and easy pod refilling, accepting that pods lock them into Nespresso's own pricing.

Beta. Fewer accounts than the vacuum pages and the subjects are still settling in. Read the counts, not the headlines.

N/A*

No owner ratings here yet. What is on this page is our summary of 197 public owner accounts from forum threads and video comments, written by us. None of it was posted to Still Kicks by an owner. The number arrives when owners rate it here, and comes only from them.

Praised most for coffee quality (17 of the 23 who raised it); the most common concern is descaling process (7 of 11).

What keeps coming up

Pod refilling with a silicone lid comes up again and again as easier than an AeroPress or manual espresso setup, letting owners cut cost without giving up the pop-a-pod convenience (8 accounts, all positive).

What keeps coming up against it

Pod cost is the most-raised complaint by far: owners say pods run $1.20-$2 each, Nespresso holds the patent until 2029, and there's no cheaper third-party option the way there is for the Original line (28 accounts, mostly negative).

Counted from the owners who raised each subject, not from everyone. Nobody wrote this list; these are the subjects owners kept bringing up on their own.

5 more subjects came up from fewer than 4 owners each, which is not enough for a fair reading. To see how it stacks up, compare it with another machine.

Life with it

Once the novelty wears off, the appeal narrows to speed and simplicity: pop in a pod, get coffee in seconds, no puck prep or steam wand to manage. Owners who compared it to pour-over, Moka pot, or a manual espresso machine say Vertuo wins on effort even when the others make better coffee. Pod variety and taste stay a plus for people who drink regular coffee rather than straight espresso.

What becomes routine is planning pod orders around gaps in availability. Some flavors only show up online, others only in Nespresso's own boutiques, and owners describe extra trips or panic-buying a favorite before it runs out. A few accounts settle into refilling capsules themselves once the sticker shock of buying full-price pods sets in.

Reliability & repairs

Several owners report machines running for years without issue. One Citiz owner has kept theirs 15 years, and a Vertuo Next bought in 2020 was still working trouble-free. Descaling comes up as a recurring maintenance task, and every account that mentioned it described it as a hassle rather than something that went smoothly.

On the other side, a few owners describe sudden failures (internal leaking, blinking red lights, a warranty voided over an alleged spider inside the unit) and frustration with customer support afterward. The accounts here are thin on the far end of ownership: most comments describe the first few years, not what happens at five-plus years, so the long-term picture is incomplete.

Does it still kick?

The same owner, the same machine, asked again at each of these. It needs real owners answering a real follow-up, so it stays empty until they do. We are not drawing a line through numbers we do not have.

Where this came from

Counted by type. These are public discussions we read and summarised in our own words; none was submitted to Still Kicks, and none carried proof of purchase that we know of. The individual accounts are kept on file behind every claim; they are not reproduced here.

* N/A means we do not yet have enough data for a fair score. A rating appears once owners have rated this machine here. A subject is only judged once at least 4 owners have raised it; below that we show the count and not a verdict. Praised or Concerns means at least 6 in 10 of everyone who raised the subject leaned that way; anything less is shown as split, with the counts. Mixed means an owner said both good and bad things about that one subject.

Every figure here is counted from public accounts written by people who said they own the product, and summarised by Still Kicks in its own words. None of it was submitted here as a review, and nothing is a manufacturer claim, a lab test or an estimate. The accounts behind each claim are kept on file, not reproduced.

Owner ratings are the point. As they come in they become the page, and this baseline moves in behind them.
