Owners keep the j7 for obstacle avoidance that's clearly better than older Roombas, even as they accept ongoing frustration with mopping, hair tangling, and support when hardware fails.

No owner ratings here yet. What is on this page is our summary of 379 public owner accounts from forum threads and video comments, written by us. None of it was posted to Still Kicks by an owner. The number arrives when owners rate it here, and comes only from them.
Praised most for cleaning performance (10 of the 15 who raised it); the most common concern is navigation (35 of 47).
Owners across multiple threads say the j7's obstacle avoidance is a real step up from prior Roombas, with one expecting it to keep improving as the maker gathers more obstacle data from owners, though it's close, not lopsided (37 positive vs. 40 negative accounts).
Customer support is the sharpest complaint: owners describe repeated failures needing replacement units and support that stopped helping after multiple defective parts, with one owner going through Amazon's A-to-Z guarantee after the seller refused a refund.

Counted from the owners who raised each subject,
not from everyone. Nobody wrote this list; these are the subjects owners
kept bringing up on their own.
9 more subjects came up from fewer than 4 owners each, which is not enough for a fair reading. To see how it stacks up, compare it with another machine.
Life with it
The obstacle avoidance keeps earning goodwill well past the first weeks. Owners moving from older Roombas or competing brands consistently note it dodges things noticeably better than what they had before, and mapping/room-by-room control becomes a routine part of daily use once a good map is built. App integration, including Matter support with Apple Home, works smoothly enough for some owners that it stops being something they think about.
What doesn't fade is the maintenance owners have to build habits around: hair tangling in the brush and mop pads that don't clean as well as they'd hoped. Several owners had to work out map fixes, separate maps per room or floor, to get the Clean All command to behave sensibly, since the robot's tendency to start cleaning far from its dock caused early problems on multi-floor homes.
Reliability & repairs
Reliability is mixed and skews negative in the recurring themes (5 positive vs. 14 negative accounts). The clearest failure pattern is hardware: owners report main brush module defects, navigation issues, and dustbin problems that required replacement units. In one case a robot and its auto-empty dock were replaced more than once before support stopped helping. Charging and Wi-Fi disconnects also show up, with one owner needing to manually clean the charging connectors to get the robot reconnecting to its dock.
The comments behind this theme are dominated by owners describing problems and replacement cycles rather than owners confirming years of trouble-free use, so the long-term picture here is thin. Most of what's documented is what goes wrong and how support (or the lack of it) responded, not how the unit performs after the warranty period.

Does it still kick?
The same owner, the same machine, asked
again at each of these. It needs real owners answering a real
follow-up, so it stays empty until they do. We are not drawing a line
through numbers we do not have.
Where this came from
Counted by type. These are public discussions we read
and summarised in our own words; none was submitted to Still Kicks,
and none carried proof of purchase that we know of. The individual
accounts are kept on file behind every claim; they are not reproduced

* N/A means we do not yet have enough data for a fair score. A rating appears once owners have rated this machine here. A subject is only judged once at least 4 owners have raised it; below that we show the count and not a verdict. Praised or Concerns means at least 6 in 10 of everyone who raised the subject leaned that way; anything less is shown as split, with the counts. Mixed means an owner said both good and bad things about that one subject.
Every figure here is counted from public accounts written by people who said they own the product, and summarised by Still Kicks in its own words. None of it was submitted here as a review, and nothing is a manufacturer claim, a lab test or an estimate. The accounts behind each claim are kept on file, not reproduced.
Owner ratings are the point. As they come in they become the page, and this baseline moves in behind them.
