How does it hold up? Ask the people who live with it.
Almost every review on the internet was written in the first week, when everything still worked. We wanted to know what happens after that.
What we are doing
We want the real picture of how a product performs, from the everyday people who actually use it. Not the launch-week review. Not the spec sheet. The person who has lived with it for a year and can tell you what they love about it, what has held up, and what they would say to a friend who is thinking about buying one.
Plenty of people own something they would not trade for anything. That story matters as much as any other, and it gets the same space here. So an owner rates a product, and then we come back and ask again: two weeks in, three months, six months, a year, two years. Does it still kick? That question, asked over and over, is the whole site.
Who we answer to
Nobody who makes the products. No manufacturer pays for placement, sees a rating before you do, or gets to change a word on a page. If a link on this site ever earns us a commission, it will say so right next to the link, and it will never change what we say or the order anything appears in. We would rather stay small than be bought.
Real owners, and proof
A rating here is tied to one specific product and the month it was bought. To be verified, an owner shows us the product is in their hands: a photo taken live through our camera check, with the one-time code we give you visible in the shot, or a receipt for it. On a desktop you get a QR code that hands the check to your phone. Every check is looked at by a person, and proof is kept for three days and then deleted, unless a review is disputed.
Every review is noted the moment it is given. A rating counts toward a product's average once its owner is verified. Until then it is shown as noted, and it does not move the number.
Where a page starts
Before the first owner arrives, every product page is built from public reviews and discussions: the same material you could find yourself with an afternoon of research. We read it, count what keeps coming up, and show you the count, so no page is empty on day one. Every statistic on a starting page is sourced that way, and we never invent a claim nobody made.
Disclaimer: none of the public material we reviewed before the site opened carried proof of purchase that we know of. That is exactly why owner ratings here are verified, and why they take over a page as they arrive.
What we will not do
- Email you about anything other than the three things you signed up for: the re-rating prompts, a warning before a warranty ends, and a note when a page about something you own changes. Each one is yours to switch off.
- Rank anything by who pays.
- Hide a small sample. If four people said it, we say four.
- Add scores together into one number that sounds more certain than it is.
Where this is going
Robot vacuums first, because that is where we started and where the data ran deepest. Espresso machines, Power tools are in beta now. But the idea has no ceiling. Anything a person can own, live with for a year, and have an opinion about belongs here: kitchen gear, tools, cars, cameras, mattresses, software, even the operating system on your phone.
