Sony A80L

What still gets people is the picture. Owners describe it as amazing and rank it above other TVs they have owned, and one who bought the 83 inch size a year on is still glad they did. An owner who has both this and a newer Bravia 7 puts the two together at the top of everything they have used.

The adjustment is the room. Owners who watch mostly at night are happy. Owners in bright, open spaces with sunlight coming in found the A80L looked fine after dark and underwhelming during the day, and a few discovered their room was not as dark as they thought. One kept it and calls the brightness acceptable if on the low side; two others swapped to mini LED sets (a Sony X93L, a TCL QM9K) and do not regret it, though one of them says the picture was excellent either way.

Nobody in these accounts reports a fault or a repair. The longest-tenured owner, who has had the set since it launched, still describes it as amazing, and a second owner who bought a year ago reports the same. One owner comparing it with a newer TCL notes the A80L is now a few years old, but frames that as a reason it is outshone in daylight, not as anything wearing out.

That is a thin record. Only two accounts describe ownership over a year or more, and neither goes into detail about burn-in, panel wear, software, or anything else that shows up with age. The honest reading is that nothing has gone wrong for the owners who spoke up, and that there are not yet enough long-term accounts to say how it holds up beyond that.
