Neato D10

A lidar robot vacuum that owners keep for how much dog hair it pulls off carpet, accepting that since Neato's servers went dark it runs only on whatever settings it had left.

What keeps coming up

Most owners who raised price were positive about what the D10 cost for what it does. Owners with heavy-shedding dogs also single out its carpet pickup, and several say it beat the Shark or Roomba they tried in its place, though the hair theme as a whole is divided.

What keeps coming up against it

The app is the clearest complaint: everything ran through Neato's cloud, so with the servers off owners cannot change schedules, redraw maps or leave eco mode, and even before that the D7's app handled no-go lines and rooms better.

Life with it

What still pleases people is the basic job. The full-width brush and lidar navigation get mentioned as the reasons a D10 out-cleans newer machines on carpet, especially with fine dog hair, and more than one owner returned a self-emptying competitor and went back to emptying the D10 bin by hand. Emptying the bin every day is the routine most people settle into, and they say it is worth it.

The adjustment is living without the app. Owners describe a machine frozen in time: it keeps running the Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule it had, but maps are gone, some units defaulted to eco mode, and nothing can be edited. A few got lucky with a late reconnection and used it to set max power as the permanent default before the app stopped working for good. Some are waiting on a community-run replacement server; others say they never used floor plans or remote start and do not miss them.

Reliability & repairs

Owners are divided on how the hardware holds up. On one side are three-year-old units still vacuuming daily, and multi-Neato households that call the D10 their most dependable robot. On the other are D10s that died outright from the software cutoff, one that began behaving erratically and then threw a bad battery error, and owners who chose to replace rather than repair two failed units. Those who do try to fix them talk about swapping the battery and hoping.

Customer support does not help much here: replies from Neato amount to a form explanation that the company ceased operations in 2023 and Vorwerk kept the cloud running for a while. Bear in mind the long-term accounts are thin. Only a handful of owners describe more than a couple of years with the machine, so the picture of what wears out first is patchy, and the server shutdown now colours nearly every report.
