Samsung S90D

Owners keep the S90D for its picture, especially in a dark room at night, and most who compare it to other OLEDs prefer what they see on it.

What keeps coming up

Picture quality is the clear praise. Owners who also have Sony, LG and TCL sets say they would rather watch most things on the S90D, and several credit the QD-OLED panel's colour over LG's WOLED.

What keeps coming up against it

Owners are divided on brightness. Some say it is the first panel they found genuinely bright enough, even with sun coming through glass doors; others found a bright room with window reflections made it hard to watch and had to rearrange the room.

Life with it

What keeps delighting people is the panel itself. Owners who run it beside a Bravia 7, an LG C4 or G4 say the S90D is the one they reach for most of the time, and the colours are the part they single out. One owner who came from an LG C9 notes that HDR content looks excellent once it is properly set up, and that any HDR looking worse than SDR is a settings problem, not the TV.

The adjustment is the room. Night viewing draws no complaints; daytime is where accounts split. One owner moved the furniture to get away from window reflections, another sits in direct sunlight and says it is easily bright enough. Sports and some streaming TV content are the one area where an owner gave the edge to Sony's processing rather than the Samsung.

Reliability & repairs

The picture holds up for the owners who have had it longest, including one who bought open box a year and a half ago and still calls it a favourite. The failure that came up was serious: one owner had a full panel failure at about a year and a half and has moved back to LG. Another had a set replaced through a third-party protection plan, refused the downgrade offered, and ended up with the newer S90F.

Long-term accounts are thin, and the honest reading is that a couple of owners have run into trouble while most have not reported anything. What is consistent is how owners protect themselves: several bought a retailer or third-party warranty specifically because they do not trust Samsung's own support, and one says they would have chosen a different brand without that cover. Samsung customer service itself gets no positive mentions in these accounts.
