Segway g3

Owners keep the Segway G3 for commuting and summer fun rides. They praise its speed, suspension and big wheels, and accept that it is a heavy scooter to lift.

What keeps coming up

Top speed is clear praise: owners find it quick enough that several never unlock the full speed mode or cap it lower, and still call it plenty.

What keeps coming up against it

Weight is a clear complaint. It is a heavy scooter, and some owners point people who need to carry one toward Segway's lighter F3 models instead.

What it is

The Segway Ninebot MAX G3 is an electric kick scooter you ride standing up. It is built for adults with longer daily commutes, and it has large tires, suspension and brakes on both wheels.

What the specs mean

Up to 80 km is Segway's best case. With hills, cold weather or a heavier rider, expect less, but most commutes would still mean charging every few days rather than every day. At about 24 kg it is heavy to carry up stairs or lift onto a train. Disc brakes on both wheels give firm stopping. The 25 km/h top speed is the European limit, and the US version may be set differently.

Life with it

What still pleases owners is the ride. The front and rear hydraulic suspension and large wheels make rough pavement comfortable, and owners describe it as balanced and a real step up from their earlier scooters. Some use it for the daily trip from the train to the office. Others treat it as a summer toy that gets them out of the house. Both a short rider and a heavy rider said it fits them well and they don't regret buying it. Owners are divided on range, with some happy and others wanting more.

The routine part is the gear. Many G3 riders wear a full face helmet, and some add a jacket and gloves. They accept that it takes longer to put on than a bike helmet. One owner who crashed at speed credits the helmet with saving their face. The main adjustment is the weight. In one family the G3 is the rider's own scooter, and his wife prefers a lighter one when she rides with him.

Reliability & repairs

Durability is clear praise. One owner rode an earlier Ninebot Max for years with one minor incident that left only scratches, then bought the G3 to replace it. Owners mention the tubeless, puncture resistant tires as a plus. Some keep the scooter in sport mode or cap its top speed, partly because they expect that to make it last longer.

Owners are divided on overall reliability. About as many raise problems as report none, and the sampled comments don't describe what fails. A few owners raise theft as a worry, which is too few to judge. Most accounts come from owners in their first season, so long-term evidence for this model is thin. It is too early to say how it holds up over years of riding.

Nothing has a clear majority against it yet. Counted from the owners who raised each subject, not from everyone. A subject is judged once at least 4 owners raise it.

11 more subjects came up from fewer than 4 owners each, which is not enough for a fair reading. To see how it stacks up, compare it with another machine.
