LG C8

Owners keep the C8 for its deep blacks and a picture that still holds up years and thousands of hours later, accepting that it is not as bright as an LCD.

What keeps coming up

Black levels are the thing owners keep coming back to: one who has run a 77 inch set since 2018 in a light-controlled room says it looks excellent on everything, including old black and white films, not just 4K material.

What keeps coming up against it

Owners are divided on brightness. Several wish the OLED panel could go brighter and concede an IPS LCD will out-punch it in a bright room, while others say the light output is a non-issue for how they use it.

Life with it

What still delights people after years is the picture itself. The contrast and black levels get compared favourably against newer LCD and mini-LED sets, and one owner with three OLEDs in the house says the C8 still looks better than nearly any LCD they have seen. Cleaning has become a settled routine: a barely damp microfiber cloth with up and down strokes, a duster for light dust, and a few owners who use isopropyl on a cloth without trouble.

The adjustments are about light and connectivity. Owners in bright rooms notice the ceiling on brightness and accept it as the trade for the blacks. One owner's set lost its ability to stay connected to the internet, so they now run it through an Apple TV box and are content with that. The set is also heavy and large enough that fitting it into a new space took some effort for one owner who moved it from bedroom to living room.

Reliability & repairs

The panel is what people talk about, and mostly it keeps working. One owner reports around 30,000 hours with HDR highlights perhaps a hair dimmer than when new and no other complaints. Another has 14,000 hours on a 65 inch set with no burn-in and says the image looks as it did on day one. On the other side, one owner did develop burn-in after six years on a 55 inch set. LG support comes up well: that owner had an engineer booked to replace the panel for roughly £300, and another had an older B6 panel replaced free two years out of warranty with a C8 panel that is still perfect seven years on.

Long-term accounts here are thin. The high-hour reports come from a handful of owners, and the burn-in reports from a similarly small group, so the picture is a few strong stories rather than a broad pattern. Nothing in the accounts covers failures of the boards, the stand, or the remote.
