TCL qm7l

A bright TV that costs less than OLED. Owners choose it to save money, and Costco's long warranty adds to the appeal. The trade-off some raise is HDR color accuracy.

What keeps coming up

Owners see it as good value. One QM7L Pro owner, who also has an LG C3 OLED, said it saves a lot of money against OLED with nothing to complain about, and another found it brighter than LG's pricier B5 when comparing them in a store.

What keeps coming up against it

Some owners said HDR mode looks wrong: a red tint, colors in the wrong shade, and crushed blacks that calibration did not fix. Too few accounts raised this for a verdict, but every one of them was negative.

What the specs mean

The 2,100+ dimming zones and peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits mean the picture holds up in a sunny room, and dark scenes look properly dark. The TV runs at 144Hz natively, so fast games on a PC or current console look smooth. Only two of the four HDMI ports run at that full speed, so plug your gaming devices into HDMI 1 and 2. Plug a soundbar into HDMI 4, which is the eARC port.

Life with it

The owners who kept it are happy. One bought the QM7L Pro from Costco for a basement room, alongside an LG C3 OLED upstairs, and said it has been great. They pointed to it using the same processor as the QM8L and supporting Dolby Vision 2. Another called it amazing just after delivery and planned to ask the store to match a newer sale price.

The adjustment comes with HDR. One owner gaming on an Xbox Series X in HDR found the picture so harsh that their eyes watered within minutes, and blues and greys looked the wrong color, though everything outside HDR looked great. Others saw a strong red tint in HDR mode and weak contrast. Some of these owners swapped the set for an OLED, one of them for a Sony Bravia 6. One of them said they would miss Google TV, because it fits a home already run on Google Home.

Reliability & repairs

None of these accounts describe the set breaking or failing. The problems owners raised are about picture quality in HDR, not hardware faults. One owner thought the red tint could not be fixed, and another said black crush stayed even after calibration. Those owners solved it by exchanging the TV, not by repairing it. Buying from Costco came up as a safeguard, since one QM7L Pro owner got a five-year warranty and free installation.

The long-term evidence is thin. Almost every account comes from the first days or weeks of ownership, and none describe living with the set for a year or more. Several of the price and warranty comments are actually about the cheaper QM6K, not this model. So the evidence specific to the QM7L is smaller than the counts suggest, and how it holds up over years is not yet known.

Nothing has a clear majority against it yet. Counted from the owners who raised each subject, not from everyone. A subject is judged once at least 4 owners raise it.

10 more subjects came up from fewer than 4 owners each, which is not enough for a fair reading. To see how it stacks up, compare it with another machine.
